CMS Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Win over Johns Hopkins in ITA Indoor Semifinals

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season and advanced to face Chicago in a rematch of the last two national titles with a hard-fought 6-1 win over Johns Hopkins at the ITA Indoor Semifinals on Saturday.

Five of the six singles matches went to three sets, with the Athenas prevailing in all five of them, after they took a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point. Nikolina Batoshvili and Alisha Chulani earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, and Audrey Yoon and Katherine Wurster secured the point with a 6-2 win at No. 3.

Yoon fell in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, but battled back to earn a 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 win to complete a singles-doubles sweep. Chulani did exactly the same at No. 3, rallying for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3, while Lindsay Eisenman came back at No. 1 for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win as she got stronger as the match moved on.

Wurster also earned a singles-doubles sweep with a three-set win at No. 6, responding after dropping the second for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win.

Sena Selby had three tight battles in her three sets at No. 4, but came away with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory to give CMS wins at five of the six courts.

CMS will face a familiar foe in Chicago, which earned a win over the Athenas at the ITA Indoor Finals last year, before CMS won the rematch for the national title in May 5-3. The Athenas also defeated Chicago 5-1 for the 2022 national title.
