Sydney Lee Earns SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Sydney Lee was named the SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 27, the league office announced on Monday.

Lee moved up to the No. 1 singles position in a regional matchup with Trinity and dominated with a 6-1, 6-1 victory to lead CMS to an 8-1 team win. It was her first time playing at the No. 1 line since her freshman season, when she was 3-0 against unranked teams. She then played at No. 2 against Mary Washington later in the day and dominated again with a 6-3, 6-0 win, giving her only five dropped games in two straight-set wins, while adding a comeback win at No. 2 doubles (7-1 in a tiebreaker), which gave CMS the swing point and a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Lee becomes the second straight winner for the Athenas, after Crystal Juan took the honor a week ago following wins over Point Loma and Hope International. CMS has now started out its dual season with two straight doubleheader sweeps at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, by a combined final score of 29-3.

The Athenas will be back in action this weekend with a big trip to the ITA Indoor Nationals at Centre College from Friday to Sunday, opening up with a match against Carnegie Mellon on Friday.
