Athenas Overwhelm Poets for 9-0 Victory on Saturday

WHITTIER, Calif. – The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team overwhelmed Whittier on Saturday morning with a 9-0 sweep of the Poets. CMS dropped a total of 14 games across all nine matches on Saturday.

Three doubles victories were highlighted by an 8-0 sweep by Madison Shea (CMC) and Jessie Cruz (CMC) in the second doubles match. In addition to the Shea/Cruz win, the teams of Lindsay Brown (CMC)/Nicole Tan (CMC) and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania (SC)/Juliette Martin (HMC) also earned the Athenas team points in doubles. Both duos won their matches with scores of 8-2, with Brown/Tan winning at the top doubles court and Bryan-Ajania/Martin claiming the #3 doubles point.

In singles play, Lauren Yamagami (CMC), Shea, and Caroline Cox (CMC) each earned 6-1, 6-0 victories to lead CMS to the clean sweep in the match. Catherine Allen (SC) won at the top singles spot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Whittier's Kindall Yeung. Nicole Tan picked-up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles and Bryan-Ajania claimed the #4 singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

The Athenas improve to 19-2 on the season and will next take the court on Thursday when they square-off with the No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in the Sixth Street Rivalry at 6:00 p.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
