First round wins for all Athenas in individual draws

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Both doubles teams representing the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals in the NCAA Individuals competition. Additionally, Catherine Allen (SC '20) and Nicole Tan (CMC '20) each won their first round singles matches with Allen continuing into the quarterfinals.

In the singles draw, Allen went up against seventh-ranked Christina Puccinelli from Middlebury and won a match more difficult than the 6-1, 6-4 score may indicate. In the second round, she took out Diana Aboubakare from Kenyon 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. Tomorrow morning, Allen takes the court against the top-ranked Eudice Chong from Wesleyan.

On the other side of the draw, eighth-seeded Tan beat Nithya Kanagasegar from Case Western Resverve 6-2, 6-1 but then fell to Michelle Satterfield of Emory in the subsequent round. Tan faced Satterfield just two days ago in the team semifinal, but the match was unfinished.

In doubles play, Tan and Lindsay Brown (CMC '18) took out Kaylan Griffith and Rebecca Ho from Washington University in a rematch of the team quarterfinals. The CMS pair went down 4-6 in the first set but then came back with a vengeance to win 12 of the next 14 games to secure the payback win. Tomorrow, Brown and tan face Hannah Atkinson and Chloe Henderson from Williams.

Allen and partner Katie Kuosman (CMC '17) graduated to the quarterfinals with the straight set (6-2, 6-2) win over Joulia Likhanskaia and Samantha Stalder from Bowdoin. The pair match up with the No. 1 seed Eudice Chong and Victoria Yu from Wesleyan in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
