Mackenzie Mayfield Captures SCIAC Swimmer of the Week Accolades for Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Mackenzie Mayfield of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team earned the SCIAC Swimmer of the Week honor for events through Sunday, Feb. 4, the conference office announced today.

Mayfield had a strong performance against Division I competition at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Saturday. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.81 by five-hundredths of a second, one of only two events that were not won by Division I swimmers (from UC Santa Barbara, Pepperdine or Pacific).

In addition, Mayfield came in third place in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.77 behind two UC Santa Barbara swimmers. Her time earned her an NCAA "B" cut and moved her into sixth place in CMS history.

It marks the second time this season, and third time in her two-year career that Mayfield has been honored by the SCIAC, after also winning the Swimmer of the Week when she finished first in four events (two individual, two relay) in a dual win over Occidental on Jan. 6. Meilan Uyeno (twice) and Alexis Romero have also combined for three Diver of the Week honors.

CMS will close out the regular season on Saturday when it competes at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, before trying to defend its SCIAC title at the league championships from Feb. 22-25 at East Los Angeles College (ELAC).
