CMS Women's Swim and Dive in Second After First Day of Dual Meet With Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first day of its dual meet with Pomona-Pitzer, trailing 67-43 after the first six events were completed on Friday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.

CMS went 1-2 in the three-meter dive to earn 13 key points, with Makenna Parkinson winning in 270.25 and Izzy Doud placing second in 260.80. 

The Athenas began the meet with a 3:48.12 in the 400 medley relay, which places eighth all-time at CMS. Jameson Mitchum, Mackenzie Mayfield, Sun Young Byun and Annika Sharma earned their way into the top 10, with Mayfield's 1:02.89 split in the breaststroke ranking third in program history, just one-hundredth behind Augusta Lewis in second (who will re-join the program in the spring semester). 

Mayfield also moved into fifth place in CMS history in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.42 to place second at the meet. Mitchum, who ranks second all-time at CMS in the 200 IM, placed third in 2:07.01, and Allyson Yao was in fourth at 2:07.61. 

CMS also went 2-3 in the 500-yard freestyle, with Ella Blake earning a runner-up finish in 5:02.99 and Katy Shaw close behind in third in 5:04.29. Ally Rudolph came in third in the 50 free, and the 200 free relay of Annika Sharma, Mayfield, Jade Saunders and Rudolph ended second in 1:36.50. 

Most of the meet will take place tomorrow, as the women will compete on the three-meter dive, with the backstroke, breaststroke, backstroke, 400 IM, 100 free and 200 free left to go among the individual events, as well as the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
