Doud Earns All-SCIAC Honors for Second Time at League Diving Championships
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - One day after finishing third in the three-meter dive at the SCIAC Championships, Izzy Doud added another third-place finish in the one-meter on Sunday to earn all-league honors for the second time in her first postseason competition, which was held at Cal Lutheran University.
Doud was in fourth place after the preliminary round, but surged up to third with a final score of 419.75 points. She very nearly moved up to second, ending up just 4.25 points behind Sydney Patterson of Redlands, who was the runner-up with 424.00 points. Ruby Epstein of Pomona-Pitzer finished first with 467.15 points.
The Athenas had three divers qualify for the nine spots in the one-meter finals on Sunday out of the 18 divers who entered. Makenna Parkinson reached the finals and finished one spot behind Doud in fourth with 413.45 points. Alexis Romero also was a finalist and came in ninth place with 347.10 points.
With the diving portion of the SCIAC Championships in the books, the Athenas will next turn their attention to the swimming events, which will begin on Wednesday night at La Mirada and continue through the final day of competition on Saturday. CMS will be trying to defend its 2020 league championship in what is expected to be a tight battle with Pomona-Pitzer, which won a close dual meet between the two teams back in December.
