CMS Swimming and Diving Squads Capture CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's and men's swimming and diving teams both had strong semesters in the classroom in the 2020 Fall semester, earning Scholar All-America Team honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America, the organization announced today.

Both CMS teams easily passed the minimum standard required for Scholar All-America honors during the fall. The women's swimming and diving team combined for an impressive team GPA of 3.65 during the semester, while the men's swimming and diving team was close behind with a 3.62 GPA.

The strong semester in the classroom continued a very successful 2020 calendar year for both swimming and diving programs. The Athenas and Stags both captured SCIAC Championships in February, winning back the title for the first time since 2017, while the Athenas ended the year ranked No. 10 in the nation in the final CSCAA Division III poll and the Stags finished ranked No. 11. A combined 18 student-athletes from the two programs qualified for the NCAA Championships, which ended up canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with all 18 qualifiers receiving All-America distinction.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
