Holden, McKinley Earn All-Region Honors for CMS Women's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Tori Holden of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned second-team All-Region X honors from the United Soccer Coaches, while Annie McKinley captured a spot on the third team, the organization announced today.

Holden was a first-team All-SCIAC selection after tallying three goals for the Athenas. She had the game-winner on a volley off a corner kick in a win over La Verne, and added the go-ahead goal in the rematch with La Verne at home, a pivotal sweep which helped CMS earn a SCIAC Tournament bid.

McKinley anchored the team defense from her center back spot this year, and also added two goals, including one against SCIAC Champion Cal Lutheran, which is currently competing in the NCAA Division III semifinals. The Athenas had six straight shutouts in conference play, a shutout streak of 712 minutes, and allowed less than a goal per game during the regular season (14 in 16 games).

Holden and McKinley helped CMS to a 6-4-2 conference record and the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament, in a year in which the Athenas had only one senior on the roster (Laurel Ovenell).  CMS also showed dramatic improvement as the year went on, starting out 1-5-1 in its first seven games, but finishing the regular season at 7-6-3, with the only defeat in that 6-1-2 span over the final nine games coming in the final minute at Chapman.
