CMS Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team controlled play, earning a 12-5 edge in shots and a 7-1 edge in shots on goal, but had to settle for a 0-0 tie at Southwestern (Texas) on Friday afternoon.

With the tie, CMS moves to 1-1-1 on the year, while the Pirates slip to 0-2-1.

Sadie Brown had one save to get the shutout for the Athenas, while Kaitlyn Helfrich had a game-high three shots, two of which were on net.

Annie McKinley, Emma Fogg, Ivy Duran and Ava Allen played the bulk of the minutes on the back line, helping to hold Southwestern to just the one shot on frame, which came at the buzzer of the first half.

CMS had perhaps its best chance when Helfrich and Kateri Trujillo both put shots on target within a span of several seconds in the 56th minute, but Johnna Campbell stopped both for the Pirates, for two of her seven saves.

The Athenas will be back in action on Sunday for the second half of their Texas trip, battling Trinity University at 9 a.m. (Pacific).
