Katrina Ostrom Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for CMS Women's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior defender Katrina Ostrom was named the SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Sept. 15, the league office announced today.

Ostrom, who is playing an outside back position this season after playing defensive midfield a season ago, helped CMS to its fourth shutout in its first five games in a 1-0 non-conference win over Redlands on Saturday. In addition to her role on defense, she also scored the game's only goal, coming forward out of the back to rifle home a 20-yard shot in the opening minutes of the second half. She almost added a second one from almost the same spot 10 minutes later, but hit the crossbar and had the ball bounce out.

The win improved CMS to 4-0-1 on the year as it concluded its non-conference schedule undefeated, with the only tie a 1-1 draw at UC Santa Cruz. CMS has won all four of its home games by shutout, outscoring Johnson & Wales, Illinois Wesleyan, Pacific Lutheran and Redlands by a combined 10-0.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it opens up SCIAC play with a road game at La Verne, beginning at 7 p.m.
