Rhiann Holman's Hat Trick Leads CMS Women's Soccer to 6-0 Opening Day Win at Soka

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Junior midfielder Rhiann Holman (CMC '20) had three goals and an assist, including a pair of goals 15 seconds apart in the second half, as the CMS women's soccer team opened up its 2018 season with a 6-0 road win over Soka on Friday night.

Holman also assisted on the game's first goal from Sarah Tocher (CMC '21) at the 16:22 mark of the first half, which proved to be the game-winner. Claire Hamson (CMC '21) had three saves to start the season with a shutout in goal.

"This was a solid team performance for our first game," said Head Coach Jennifer Clark. "We had lots of positives, and also saw some places that still need work. It was also nice to get a lot of our players some time, that will benefit us in the long run."

After Tocher put the Stags up 1-0, the lead appeared as if would stay one goal heading into the half, but Aarthi Namasivayam (HMC '21) struck just before the break, scoring off a feed from Katrina Ostrom (CMC '21) to make it 2-0 with just 1:16 left on the clock.

Holman then quickly put to rest any thoughts of a Soka comeback with a scoring barrage to start the second stanza. She scored just 3:45 into the second half to stretch the lead to 3-0, and then scored again 15 seconds later to make it a four-goal lead. She capped off her hat trick at the 64:37 mark, netting her three goals over a span of just 15:52.

Sara Catherine Ueland (CMC '22) capped off the CMS scoring with a goal with 6:10 remaining for her first collegiate tally in her debut with the Athenas, scoring off a feed from Isabel Streiffer (SC '21).

The Athenas will be back in action on Wednesday when they get an early jump into SCIAC play, taking on La Verne on the road for a 7 p.m. contest.
