CMS Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Cal Lutheran in Final Regular Season Road Game
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Abby Parrish and Catherine Murphy each scored four goals, and 12 different Athenas found the net in all, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team took a 23-2 road win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves CMS to 11-4 overall an 9-2 in league play, heading into its finale on Saturday against Whittier at home. Cal Lutheran slips to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in league play.
Murphy and Rachel Leonardi opened th scored with goals 13 seconds apart in the opening two minutes, and the Athenas quickly built the lead up to 8-0 with 4:02 left in the first quarter. Olivia Carey had two goals in the stretch, as did Murphy and Leonardi, while Alex Futterman and Emma Merk each had one.
After Cal Lutheran got on the board, Parrish and Murphy closed out the first quarter with goals, both off of feeds from Bella Lynch, as Murphy earned a hat trick in the first 15 minutes.
Six different Athenas scored in the second quarter as CMS took a 16-1 lead into the break. Alicia Lamkin started the run, and then fed Maggie Griffis for a goal. Parrish then scored off a Lynch feed, and Lynch and Tessa Guerra exchaned assists to each other, before Merk closed out the half with her second to make it 16-1.
Annie Cave and Taylor Daetz added third-quarter goals for CMS, while Parrish and Merk completed hat tricks. Parrish and Murphy each added their fourth goals in the fourth quarter.
Guerra, Lynch and Lamkin each had a goal and four assists for CMS. Daetz led CMS with eight draw controls and three ground balls.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday to take on Whittier at 1 p.m. at Zinda Field, which will also be Senior Day as the final regular season home game.
