CMS Women's Golf Earns Runner-Up Finish at UC Santa Cruz Invitational

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished second out of 12 teams at the two-day UC Santa Cruz Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Pacific Grove Golf Links.

CMS came into Sunday's second day eight shots behind George Fox in first place and were able to catch the Bruins with a 291, while the leaders shot a 302. However, Pomona-Pitzer matched CMS with a 291 and was able to take the team title by six strokes. 

Esther Lee and Jessie Kong tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard for the Athenas with two-day scores of 145 (+1), six shots behind individual medalist Andrea York of Redlands at -5. Both Lee and Kong shot even par on Saturday's first round and then a 73 on Sunday, with Kong finishing out on the 18th hole with a birdie. 

Christine Yu had a strong round on Sunday, shooting a 70 to move up 20 spots on the leaderboard to 12th. Yu had no bogeys on Sunday, earning birdies on No. 8 and No. 11 to finish the day at -2. Emily Zhou had a 71 on Saturday, which included six birdies, the last coming on No. 18. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday when it competes at SCIAC No. 2, which will be held at Mountain Meadows Golf Club in Pomona.
