Jun Shoots -2 as CMS Women's Golf Stands Three Shots Back after First Day of Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. - Irene Jun shot a two-under 69, the only golfer in the 55-player field in the red, to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team hold second place after the first day of the Westbrook Invite at the Lakes on Saturday afternoon at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

Host George Fox leads the overall competition with a +9 (293), with the Athenas close behind in second with a 296. Redlands, which is the top-ranked team in the latest GolfStat rankings coming into the weekend is in third with a 301, while Illinois Wesleyan and Trinity are tied for fourth with a 307. 

Jun opened her round on the second hole and started things off with a birdie. She had two straight birdies on the sixth and seventh, and had one on the 12th to get to -3, before eventually settling for a -2 on the day. 

Esther Lee stands in a tie for fourth place overall after shooting a 73 (+2) for her first round, picking up two birdies on her first seven holes. Stella Cheng is tied for 10th at +4, after a round which saw her shoot 15 pars. 

CMS will be back in action tomorrow on the second day of the tournament, beginning at 8:50 a.m.
