CMS Women's Golf Closes Out Fall Season with Dual Win over Whittier

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team had the top five finishers as it finished out its fall season with a 40-stroke win over Whittier in a dual at Via Verde Country Club.

CMS finished with a score of 309, while Whittier was a 349 on a day when Via Verde played tough. Stella Cheng, who was coming off a weekend which saw her set the single-round (67) and two-round (137) CMS records, finished in first place with a 76 (+4), with a round that included a 35-yard chip in over a bunker for a birdie on the fifth hole. 

Irene Jun was second with a 77, after closing out with a birdie on 18, and first-years Esther Liu and Ella Chiu tied for third with a 67. Reina Tain, playing as an individual added a 79 for the Athenas, while Leanne Telle and Jackie Torres led Whittier with scores of 82. 

CMS finishes the fall after a strong performance last weekend at the Claremont Challenge, where it beat Redlands by 20 strokes. The Athenas came in ranked No. 12 in the country, while Redlands was tied for first with Emory, which foretells a possible signicant jump in the rankings for CMS next week.
