Amy Xue Named SCIAC Women's Golfer of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Freshman Amy Xue was named the SCIAC Women's Golfer of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 10, the league office announced today.

Xue captured the honor after taking first place in two-day dual tournament with Redlands on Saturday and Sunday at Los Serranos North, winning by just one stroke over four golfers tied for second. She shot a 75 in her opening round on Saturday and battled through tough conditions on Sunday for a 79, giving her a two-day 154.

Xue actually had to hold on down the stretch to come in first place, as she shot a +7 (43) over the first nine holes on Sunday's round. However, she was able to regroup at the turn, and ended with nine pars in a row in worsening conditions to end up as the individual winner with a 36 on the back nine.

The Athenas also came away with the team win at the event after trailing by two shots after the first round. CMS shot a 310 on Sunday, five shots better than it shot in better conditions on Saturday, and was able to win the two-day event by 15 strokes after Redlands shot a 327.

CMS will be back in action at Los Serranos North this weekend for the first of two SCIAC regular season tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.
