Athenas Earn Special Mention on WBCA Academic Honor Roll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team had one of the top 30 team grade point averages in the country and earned special mention honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the organization announced this week.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2021-22 season is the 27th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

CMS had a 3.627 grade point average during the 2021-22 academic year, which placed it 29th nationally, just outside the top 25 cut-off of a 3.640. CMS was also the highest ranked team in the SCIAC. 

This year's release marks the first year in which all teams which qualified for the top 25 rankings with the minimum 3.0 GPA also are recognized for their academic accomplishment.

For 40 years, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association has been the professional association for coaches of women's and girls' basketball at all levels of competition.
