Wayne Akiyama

CMC '74

Wayne Akiyama is one of the most versatile distance runners in CMS history.  He graduated with the marathon school record (2:28:36) and was also on the CMS top 10 list in the 800 (1:56.7), 1500 (4:01.9), 5000 (15:01.4) and 10,000 (31:22.0).  He was a two-time NAIA All-American in the marathon and was the track team captain in 1974.

As a cross country athletes, Akiyama earned First Team All-SCIAC honors three times, was the team captain in 1972 and 1973 and ran on the first CMS cross country team to compete at a National Championship meet.  He lettered in both cross country and track all four years.
