Richards (First Team), Thompson (Second Team), Bassett (Character Award) Earn All-SCIAC Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Lauren Richards earned first-team All-SCIAC honors, Abby Thompson was selected to the second team, and Jordan Bassett earned the SCIAC's Character Award, the league office announced this morning.

Richards, who also served as a pitcher for the Athenas, earned the honor at third base, after a season in which she hit .336 with five home runs and 22 RBI. She had three homers in one day against La Verne, which was in first place at the time, including a three-run blast to give the Athenas the win in the final game of the series. She hit .406 in conference games as well with 17 RBI, including seven in the La Verne doubleheader.

Thompson had a big impact in her rookie season, moving into the starting lineup against nationally ranked St. John Fisher on March 4, and never coming back out after a 2-for-4, two-double performance. She finished the season with team-highs in batting average (.396), doubles (12), RBI (26), and slugging percentage (.667), and had several clutch performances, including a home run in the win over La Verne and four RBI in a series sweep of Whittier, including a two-run double in a 2-1 win in the opener.

Bassett was one of the senior leaders for the Athenas, and has been a regular on the SCIAC All-Academic teams throughout her career. She also earned NFCA/Easton All-America Scholar-Athlete distinction, while majoring in neuroscience at Claremont McKenna. She aspires to be a pediatric oncologist after graduation.

CMS finished the year with a 19-19 record and a 12-9 mark in SCIAC play, tying for fourth place.
