On June 5, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Baseball and Softball teams. Among the student-athletes honored were CJ Novogradac (CMC) and Briana Halle (CMC). Both Novogradac and Halle earn the first Academic All-America nods of their career with Novogradac earning First Team as a designated hitter and Halle picking up Second Team honors as an infielder.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 45 players chosen for the 2018 NFCA NCAA Division III All-America softball teams on Thursday. After a stellar junior campaign, utility player Chloe Amarilla (CMC) was tabbed as a Third Team All-American as a third baseman, earning the honor for the first time in her career. Amarilla was the only player from the SCIAC to earn All-American status, and the first Athena since Anna Gurr in 2016.

It was do-or-die for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team on Saturday afternoon in McMinnville, Ore. when the Athenas took on No. 7 Linfield for the second-straight day. Chloe Amarilla (CMC) got the ball in the circle for CMS and pitched her heart out, holding one of the toughest offenses in the country to just two runs as the Athenas dropped a heart breaker 2-1 and saw their season come to a close.

Roleder Belts Her Way to CMS History as Athenas Defeat George Fox, Fall to Linfield to Open NCAA Tournament

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team got off to a hot start in the 2018 NCAA Tournament at the McMinnville Regional hosted by Linfield College, defeating the No. 12 George Fox Bruins 6-3. History was made in the process when Carly Roleder (CMC) broke the CMS career-home run record with the 18th big fly of her career with a drive to deep center in the top of the fifth. The tables turned in Game Two when the No. 7 Linfield Wildcats scored early and often, ending the game in five innings by a score of 10-1.

CoSIDA announced the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team on Thursday, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic performances. Senior Briana Halle (CMC) earned the honor, being named Academic All-District for the first time in her career.

For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team is making their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last three years and eighth overall appearance in program history. The Athenas will head north to McMinnville, Ore. for the Regional hosted by Linfield College where they will face both No. 7 Linfield and No. 12 George Fox University. The Athenas will open up on Friday against George Fox at 3 p.m. before turning around to take on Linfield at 5:30 p.m. The outcome of both games will determine the schedule for the rest of the weekend.

Athenas Head North to Begin NCAA Tournament

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released Monday the bracket for the Division III Softball Tournament, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas were selected to travel to Lindfield College for the opening weekend. The Athenas will oppose George Fox in their first game on Friday. The Regional is comprised of only three teams so things will get a little funky, but is a double-elimination weekend with one team advancing to a best-of-three game series in the Super Regional the following weekend.

Gurr Shines in the Circle, Leads Athenas to 2018 SCIAC Tournament Title

The stands were packed in La Verne on Sunday afternoon when the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team shut out the La Verne Leopards to win to 2018 SCIAC Tournament Championship, the fifth in program history. With the victory, the Athenas secure the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. SCIAC Pitcher of the Year Anna Gurr (CMC) tossed her 30th career shutout and was named the tournament’s MVP after not allowing an earned run through all 21 innings in the tournament.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team advanced to the SCIAC Championhip after a hard-fought win over cross-campus rival, third-seeded Pomona-Pitzer. Anna Gurr (CMC) had another dominant outing, holding the Sagehens to one run on three hits while striking out four and not walking a batter. Maddie Valdez (CMC) was the hero at the plate, smashing the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team begins their journey in the SCIAC Tournament today at 2 p.m. against the hosting La Verne Leopards in a rematch of last year’s SCIAC Championship game. The Athenas finished fourth in the SCIAC with a record of 17-11 and took three of four games against La Verne this season.

Gurr Shuts Out Top-Seeded Leopards in Opening Game of SCIAC Tournament

The fourth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball teamed went head-to-head with the top-seeded La Verne Leopards in a rematch of last year’s SCIAC Championship game in the opening game of the 2018 SCIAC Tournament, and came away from the pitchers’ dual with a 2-0 win. Anna Gurr (CMC) tossed her 29th career shutout en route to the victory, allowing just five hits while striking out four in seven innings.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the 2018 All-Conference softball teams and among the student-athletes honored were five Athenas, including the SCIAC Pitcher of the Year, Anna Gurr (CMC). Gurr has been honored as the conference's Pitcher of the Year for the third-straight season and has also earned All-SCIAC honors all four years as an Athena. Joining Gurr on the First Team was Chloe Amarilla (CMC) as a pitcher and third baseman.

The Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball earned the Game One victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday, edging the Regals 1-0. The low scoring contest was scoreless through the first three innings, until Kawai Scanlan (SC) knocked in Chloe Amarilla (CMC) to put CMS on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth. Game Two did not fall in favor of the Athenas as they were run-ruled by Cal Lu 9-1 in five innings.
