Stevie Steinberg Earns USTFCCCA West Region Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Stevie Steinberg earned the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region Athlete of the Year, the organization announced this afternoon.

Steinberg earned the honor on the heels of finishing in first place at the NCAA West Regional Championships at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. He edged out teammate Henry Pick by less than a second, after Pick won the SCIAC Championship and earned the league's Athlete of the Year award.

Steinberg's performance helped CMS to a second-place finish at the regionals, earning the Stags their 13th straight team qualification to nationals. Steinberg competed at nationals in each of his first three seasons from 2017-19, helping CMS to a sixth-place finish in 2019 as a junior. He then took a gap year in order to come back and compete for his fourth and final this season this fall, enabling him to earn the West Region Athlete of the Year honor.

CMS had all seven of its runners at regionals finish in the top 35 and earn All-West Region distinction. Joining Steinberg and Pick on that list were Miles Christensen, Will Kimball, Adam Wilkinson and Kyril Van Schendel. All seven Athenas also earned All-West Region honors, while Head Coach Marina Muncan and assistants Chris Ramirez and Jessika Sninscak were named the USTFCCCA West Region Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year.

Both CMS teams will be in action this weekend at the NCAA Division III Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, where they will both challenge for the national title. The Athenas come in ranked No. 2 in the nation behind Johns Hopkins, while the Stags are ranked No. 6.
