Thomas D'Anieri Takes First Place at Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Thomas D'Anieri won his first race of the 2019 season by capturing the individual title at the Triton Invitational on Saturday morning to help the Stags to a close second-place finish.

D'Anieri, who had come in second place behind his own teammate, junior Stevie Steinberg, at the Coyote Challenge, ended up crossing the line at the Triton Invitational in 25:38.6, winning the race by three seconds over Samuel Blake of the host Tritons. Steinberg was third in 25:59.0, while sophomore Kyril Van Schendel gave the Stags three of the top five finishers by coming in fifth place in 26:07.2

As a team, CMS finished with 34 points, leaving it seven behind UC San Diego, which had the second, fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth place finishers. Junior Will Kimball was the fourth Stag to cross the line in 26:46.4 to place 11th, while first-year Daniel Krasemann scored for the first time in his career by finishing in 26:55.1 to place 14th as the fifth Stag to finish. 

Senior Wilson Ives was right behind Krasemann in 15th place, finishing in 26:58.8. First-years Will Wallace (27:09.7, 20th), Gus Albach (27:11.3, 22nd) and Henry Pick (27:23.2, 25th) all ended up in the top 25 out of 62 runners. Junior Daniel Sealand was right behind the trio of CMS rookies in 26th place, while first-year Declan O'Neill was 30th. 

CMS had won its last events, taking first place at the Coyote Challenge and The Master's Invitational as it moved up to No. 6 in the nation in the latest Division III poll. The Stags will remain in a solid position in the polls, after coming in a close second to a Triton team that is currently Division II and in transition to Division I. 

CMS will return to action for the postseason in three weeks, taking part in the 2019 SCIAC Championships in Claremont on Nov. 2. That will be followed by the NCAA West Regionals, also in Claremont, on Nov. 16, and the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky on Nov. 23.
