CMS Men's Water Polo Takes Senior Day Win over Caltech

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team honored its nine-member senior class and then went on to capture a 16-2 win over Caltech to remain perfect in SCIAC at 7-0.

With the win CMS moves to 16-6 overall, with all six of the losses coming to Division I teams who were ranked in the top 12 of the national poll at the time the Stags played them. Caltech slips to 4-15 overall and 0-7 in the SCIAC with the loss.

The Stags honored fifth-year senior Kyle Ballack, as well as the eight-members of the class of 2024 who were playing in their final regular season weekend home game: Aidan Nettekoven, Ashwin Rhodes, William Thomas, Harry Rinker, Auggie Aliaga, Eli Schwarz, Gavin Rosser and Cristian Pang

Pang led the way for the Stags with five goals, including the first two of the contest in the game's first 55 seconds. Rinker, Ballack and Rosser each had two goals on their senior day, while Thomas had a goal and two assists. Defensively, Nettekoven had four saves, and Schwarz had a pair of steals for the Stags.

The Stags also had goals from some of their younger players, with first-years Nick Kennedy, Jeffrey Koretz, Hassen Hove and Gavin Netherton each having one, along with sophomore Donovan Davidson. Sophomore Jake Taylor played the second half in goal and had six saves.

CMS will be back in action for a big one at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday and the Stags will try to maintain their hold on first place in the league, against a Sagehen team that comes in with one conference loss (to Redlands).
