Eli Schwarz Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Eli Schwarz of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team was named the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Oct. 9, the league office announced today.

Schwarz had a key role in the CMS 14-13 overtime win over Whittier, assisting on the game-tying goal with one second left with a perfect entry pass to Luke (Bear) Weigle posting up in front of the net. He also scored a fourth-quarter goal with 3:17 left down by two, and put CMS ahead in the first overtime with his second goal. He added two steals in both CMS wins this week.

He becomes the second CMS player to earn the Defensive Player of the Week honor, after goalie Aidan Nettekoven captured it earlier this season. Nettekoven also had a big week this week, including 17 saves in an 11-9 win over La Verne.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m., when it hosts Cal Lutheran at Axelrood Pool.
