Zack Rossman Earns SCIAC Men's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior attack Zack Rossman was named the SCIAC Men's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Sept. 23, it was announced today by the conference office.

Rossman earned the honor after helping Claremont-Mudd-Scripps get off to a 2-0 start in league play with a pair of two-goal wins this week. He had a team-high four goals, to go along with an assist, as the Stags opened up league play with a 13-11 home win over Chapman in a battle between two teams ranked in the top five of Division III. His efforts helped CMS roar out to a 13-6 lead in the fourth quarter before they held off a late rally from the Panthers.

He then again led the Stags in a lower-scoring contest at Redlands on Saturday, picking up two goals in a 6-4 victory. He had a first-quarter goal to help stake CMS to a 2-0 lead after the first stanza, and then added the sixth and final goal in the third quarter, which proved to be crucial to give CMS some cushion as Redlands pulled within 6-4 in the closing minutes.

For the season, Rossman leads CMS with nine goals and has scored in every contest, including against No. 1 USC at the Inland Empire Classic on Sept. 8. He was second on the Stags in goals scored last year (59) and first in points (75) on his way to All-SCIAC honors.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday for a road match at Cal Lutheran, and will then return home for a big matchup on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Whittier, which is currently ranked No. 2 in Division III.
