Bio

Caleb McCurry enters his second season as an assistant coach with the CMS men's and women's track and field teams in 2019-20, working primarily with the throwers. 

McCurry had a huge impact on the program in his first season, helping the Stags sweep the throwing events on their way to the SCIAC Championship (after being picked fourth in the preseason poll). CMS finished 1-2 in both the discus and the hammer throw, while junior Reese Peterson added his first SCIAC title in the shot put after finishing as the runner-up behind teammate Matthew Sill in the discus and hammer. The women's team also had five different throwers finish in the top 10, helping the Athenas to a narrow three-point win in the team championship. 

McCurry joined the CMS staff after serving as a coach for the track and field team at Northwood High School, his alma mater. After graduating from Northwood, he went on to a standout collegiate career for the track and field team at Concordia (Irvine), where he earned All-America honors in the shot put and the discus while qualifying for the NAIA nationals in both indoor and outdoor track and field in all four seasons. McCurry still holds the school discus record at Concordia with a throw of 181'9" at the 2012 NAIA Championships.

After graduating from Concordia in 2014 with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology, McCurry joined the US Army where he served for four years before receiving an honorable discharge in 2018. He was a tactical control assistant for the Army, spending three years in Japan and receiving recognitions as a top performer in air and missile defense.
