Beauchemin Breaks CMS Steeplechase Record at Occidental Spring Break Classic

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Hayden Beauchemin set a Claremont-Mudd-Scripps record in the steeplechase to highlight several strong performances from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic on Saturday evening. 

Beauchemin ran a 9:02.93 to finish in first place out of 46 runners, winning by a margin of almost 25 seconds. He came into the evening ranked seventh at CMS with a 9:11.24, and took over eight seconds off his PR to pass the old record of 9:04.65, set by Adam Wilkinson in 2022. Agustin Gomez de la Vega also came in fifth in the steeplechase for the Stags. 

Lou DeLano ran a 1:53.76 to come in fourth in the 800 meters out of 67 runners, winning his section and setting the fastest time in NCAA Division III so far this season. He was behind only runners from Azusa Pacific, Fresno Pacific and Pepperdine. Ellis DelVecchio also came in 11th for CMS sith a 1:56.05 and Matthew Jabro was 14th with a 1:56.39.

Mason Ratkovich was third out of 128 runners in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:51.70, second among collegiate competitors, behind only runners from Azusa Pacific and the HOKA Aggies Running Club. His time is almost two seconds faster than anyone else has run it at Division III so far, ahead of Oscar Roering of Pomona-Pitzer, who ran a 3:53.29. Daniel Voyles also now places third with a 3:56.49, which placed him 12th at Occidental. 

Adam Sage was fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:13.12, to move into second place all time at CMS behind only the 14:01.29 that Henry Pick ran last year. Sage now ranks second in Division III behind James Settles of Colorado College, who came in first at Occidental with a 14:07.08. Nick Taubenheim finished seventh with a 14:20.7, which moves him into fifth in CMS history and places him fourth in Division III so far. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it competes in the Redlands Invitational.
