Campbell's SCIAC-Record 200 Highlights Multi-Dual Sweep for Stags Track and Field

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Christian Campbell set a SCIAC record by running sub-21 seconds in the 200 meters (20.92) as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team went 3-0 at a Multi-Dual with Chapman, Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental, which was hosted by Occidental on Saturday.

CMS defeated Pomona-Pitzer 112-42, Occidental 123-38 and Chapman 120.5-36.5 as it improved to 6-0 in SCIAC competition this year.

Campbell added the 200 record at CMS to the 100-meter record he set earlier this year, when he finished in 10.47. Both times he eclipsed marks that held since the 1980s, when Mark Messana ran a 10.52 in the 100 and a 21.26 in the 200.

The 20.92 in the second best time in Division III this year, behind only Cheickna Traore of Ramapo, who won in the NCAA Division III Indoor title last month in the 200, when Campbell finished third.

Campbell almost broke his own record in the 100 meters as well, but finished in a 10.50 to come in first place. He was also part of two relay wins, joining Quincey Williams, Nick Teresi and Joshua Martinez in running a 41.43 in the 4x100, and Ellis DelVecchio, Kai Dettman and Jamie Cockburn in a 3:17.77 in the 4x400.

In other events, Dettman picked up a close win in the 800 with a 1:53.19, taking first by just .16. Henry Pick was first in the 1500 with a 3:52.30, and Martinez came in first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.17).

Sarath Kakani took first place in the shot put, breaking 52 feet for the second time with a 52-2.75. Jason Bowman took the hammer in 158-2, a margin of almost 20 feet, and Truman Knowles took first in the javelin at 177-9.

CMS will host the next SCIAC Multi-Dual, which will be held on April 15 at the Burns Track Complex.
