Eight Stags Capture USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field All-West Region Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Eight members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned All-West Region honors during indoor season, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced this week.

Massimo Bertini, Christian Campbell, Kai Dettman and Colin Scanlon were part of a 4x400 relay that was selected. Bertini (400 meters), Campbell (60 meters) and Dettman (800 meters) were also chosen for their individual events, with Bertini and Dettman earning qualifications to indoor nationals coming up this weekend.

Henry Pick and Miles Christensen will also be attending nationals to compete in the 3000 meters, for which they also earned All-Region distinction, while Pick added All-Region honors in the mile as well. Daniel Sealand was a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree in the mile as well, while Stevie Steinberg earned it in the 5000 meters.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The Stags had eight honorees, despite very limited participation in indoor season, with Pick and Christensen attending the Boston University Season Opener in December on the heels of the cross country championships, and the rest attending the Whitworth Invitational in February (Bertini earned his qualifying time at the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Feb. 27).

The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend, with seven CMS student-athletes attending, including three members of the women's team (Meredith Bloss, Emily Clarke, Brooke Simon) joining Bertini, Christensen, Dettman and Pick for the Stags.
