CMS Men's Track and Field Dominates at First SCIAC Multi-Dual

LA VERNE, Calif. - The CMS men's track and field team won 12 events at its first SCIAC Multi-Dual, which was hosted by La Verne and also featured competitors from Redlands, Chapman and Whittier.

Massimo Bertini swept the 200 and the 400 meters again, earning a 22.43 in the 200 and a 48.56 in the 400, to match his 200-400 sweep at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet. Christian Campbell made it a sweep of the sprints by taking first in the 100 meters in 11.01 seconds. 

Noah Nevens took first in the 800 meters in 1:58.50, with teammate Rafael Burger coming in second in 2:01.54. Stevie Steinberg led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1500 with a time of 3:57.10, just edging out teammates Daniel Sealand (3:57.59) and Gus Albach (3:58.13). 

Joshua Martinez earned his first collegiate win by taking first in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.53. Adam Wilkinson was the steeplechase winner in 9:25.91, to give the Stags seven individual track victories. 

CMS also added two team track victories, as the 4x100 relay team of Quincey Williams, Timi Balogun, Nick Teresi and Christian Campbell won with a time of 42.57, while the 4x400 relay of Jack Myers, Jackson Aldrich, Martinez and Teresi was first in 3:27.99.

In the throws, Sarath Kakani led a 1-2-3 finish in the shot put, breaking 50 feet with a throw 50'5", which moves him into eighth place all time at CMS, as only the ninth 50-footer in program history. Tyson-Jay Saena finished second and Jason Bowman third, while Bowman earned his own championship in the hammer with a throw of 161'10", while Truman Knowles took first in the javelin with a throw of 182'10. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend, with several athletes attending the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Nationals, and others attending the Occidental Distance and Sprint Carnival.
