Massimo Bertini Earns SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year sprinter Massimo Bertini of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team captured the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, Feb. 20, the league office announced today.

Bertini earned the award after winning three events, two individual and one relay, at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet on Saturday. He earned first place in both the 200 meters and the 400 meters, moving into the top 10 in CMS history in both, and ran the first leg of a 4x400 relay team that also came in first.

In the 400 meters, Bertini clocked a 48.27, which moves into fifth place in CMS history in his first official collegiate outdoor meet, and is the fastest time for a Stag since Jeff MacDonald ran a 47.43 in 2013. He then added a 21.72 in the 200 meters to move into eighth in CMS history, within a half-second of the all-time record held by Mark Messana (21.26 in 1987).

Bertini and the Stags will be back in action this weekend when they host the annual Rossi Relays at the Burns Track Complex, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
