Walker Quinn starts his pole vault approach at a home meet

Walker Quinn Added to NCAA Indoor Championships Invite List for CMS Men's Track and Field

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After initially being announced as an alternate, senior Walker Quinn earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this week after another competitor withdrew, and he will head to Winston Salem, N.C. to compete this weekend in the pole vault.

Quinn had a top vault in indoor competition of 15 feet, nine inches, which he achieved at Boise State on Feb. 8 at the Jacksons/Nike Invitational. Originally, that had him in the top 10 in all of Division III, but he slipped barely behind the cutoff for NCAA qualification after several leagues had their indoor track and field competitions and a few pole vaulters eclipsed his 15'9" mark.

However, the 2019 SCIAC Champion received good news this week as a slot opened up, and he will head to the Winston Salem as one of the 20 Division III competitors from around the country competing in the pole vault. His competition will get underway at the JDL Fast Track on Friday at 11 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Pacific).

A year ago, Quinn won the SCIAC title with a vault of 15'7.25", eclipsing the runner-up finished by almost four inches. His 15'9" at the Jacksons/Nike Invitational passed that mark for a new personal best during either the indoor or outdoor season.

Quinn will join CMS women's track and field senior athlete Amanda Mell, who qualified in the triple jump, in Winston Salem this weekend.
