Reese Peterson Named SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior thrower Reese Peterson was named the SCIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 23, the league office announced today.

Peterson earned three top-10 finishes for the Stags at their host Rossi Relays, including sixth in the discus and hammer, and eighth in the shot put.  In the hammer, Peterson was sixth out of 37 competitors, with a top throw of 155 feet, four inches. He was passed only by Ryota Kashimura of the Japanese club team Yamada Denki, one unattached competitor, and three Division II throwers (two from Cal State San Marcos, and one from Cal Poly Pomona).

The shot put also saw a deep field of 47 throwers, and Peterson earned eighth in the event that he won a SCIAC Championship in last season. He threw 45'9.75" to earn a top ten, while in the discus, he threw 148'1" to finish sixth, behind only two throwers from UC San Diego and three from Cal Poly Pomona.

Peterson won the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week twice last season as well, before earning All-SCIAC honors in three events, winning the shot put and finishing second (to teammate Matthew Sill) in the hammer and discus. He is also the second straight SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week for the Stags, after senior Maxwell Knowles won it last week.

CMS will return to action in two weeks when it competes in the first SCIAC Multi-Dual of the season on Saturday, March 6, which will be hosted by Whittier.
