Stags Post Solid Marks at Redlands Invitational

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team had 11 top-10 finishes at the Redlands Invitational on Saturday. Alex McDonald (CMC) posted the best finish of the day, taking third in the 400 meter hurdles. The Stags had the top Division III marks in five different events.

On the Track

Both CMS relay teams placed in the top-10, with the 4x400 team finishing fourth and the 4x100 team grabbing fifth. McDonald ran the first leg of the 4x400 for the Stags, and with teammates Connor Schulz, John Church (CMC), and Matthew Guillory (HMC), the quartet crossed the finish line with a time of 3:31.43; the best among Division III contenders. The 4x100 team of Guillory, Henry Sojico (HMC), McDonald, and Corbin Bethurem (CMC) finished in fifth with a time of 43.49.

McDonald's day did not end there. As mentioned, the freshman placed third in the 400 meter hurdles. His time of 56.10 was the top Division III finish at the meet.

Bethurem had two top-10 finishes outside of the 4x100 meter relay, taking eighth in both to 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. He finished the 100 meter with the top Division III time at the meet with a mark of 10.81. He ran the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.14.

In the Field

Walker Quinn (CMC) had the Stags' highest finish in a field event, taking fourth in the pole vault. His mark of 4.55m was the best among Division III athletes at the meet. Teammate Michael Wagenveld (CMC) was just behind him, taking fifth with a mark of 4.40m.

Reese Peterson (HMC) was in the top-15 in all three events he participated in, with his best finish coming in the hammer throw. The sophomore threw his implement a distance of 45.14m, good for a fifth place and the best among Division III competitors. He took eighth in the shot put (13.03m) and 13th in the discus (40.18m).

Also taking part in the throwing events, Michael Sill (CMC) finished in the top-10 in the discus with a mark of 41.49m, and took 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.31m.

In the high jump, Eric Myers (CMC) posted a sixth place finish with a leap of 1.80m.

The Stags head to San Diego next weekend for the SDSU Invitational. The three-day meet will take place Thursday, Mar. 22 through Saturday, Mar. 24.
