Peterson and Sill Throw their Way to Top Spots

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team took part in the first SCIAC Multi Dual of the season on Saturday at Occidental College. The Stags came away with two wins, defeating La Verne 89-74 and Chapman 133-12, but fell in a tight battle with Occidental 82-79. Three Stags posted first-place finishes.

On the Track

Corbin Bethurem (CMC) had a successful day on the track, winning the 100m dash with a time of 10.96 before taking third in the 200m dash with a mark of 22.15.

Matthew Guillory (HMC) took home fifth in the 400m dash, coming in with a time of 51.43. Wilson Ives (HMC) took third in the 800m run, finishing his race in 1:56.96.

Kevin Huang (HMC) (3:58.65), Ben Iten (HMC) (4:03.56), and Stevie Steinberg (HMC), (4:06.10) all cracked the top-ten in the 1500m run, finishing in fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively.

Alex McDonald (CMC) took the second spot in the 400m hurdles, running a 54.91 to finish just .21 behind the leader.

In the Field

Michael Wagenveld (CMC) (4.40m) and Jackson Cooney (CMC) (4.25m) finished second and third in the pole vault.

Reese Peterson (HMC) and Michael Sill (CMC) both had successful days in the throwing events. Peterson won the shot put with a mark of 12.23m and finished second behind Sill in the discus with a throw of 38.70m. Sill took the top spot in the discus with a mark of 39.84m. In addition to his victory in the discus, Still won the hammer with a toss of 39.01m.

The Stags are back in action on Mar. 10 when they head to Occidental College for the Oxy Distance and Sprint Carnival.
