CLAREMONT, Calif. - Warren Pham of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, April 23, the conference office announced today.
Pham won in both singles and doubles, picking up the clinching point, as CMS defeated Pomona-Pitzer 5-4 to complete its 17th straight undefeated SCIAC regular season. Pham teamed with Advik Mareedu for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, and then came back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to pick up the fifth and decisive point, taking the final three games in a row, including coming back from 40-15 and 40-0 down to break in his opponent's final two service games.
Pham is the fifth different Stag to win the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week this season. Matthew Robinson was the first to take it, and he was followed by Advik Mareedu, Ian Freer and Daniel Blackman.
CMS will be back in action on Friday for the SCIAC Semifinals, when it will face Pomona-Pitzer again in a rematch.
