Mareedu Becomes Third Stag to Win SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Advik Mareedu of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, April 2, the conference office announced today.

Mareedu was 6-0 on the week at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles as CMS earned wins over UC Santa Cruz, Occidental and Redlands. He won all three of his singles matches in straight sets (6-0, 6-2 vs. UCSC, 6-3, 6-2 vs. Oxy, and 6-3, 6-4 vs. Redlands) and won his three doubles matches by a combined 24-7.

Mareedu, who was the ITA Cup national champion in singles in the fall, becomes the third Stag to win the honor this season. Matthew Robinson captured it after the ITA Indoor Nationals, after he had the clinching win in a 5-4 victory over No. 1 Chicago, while Ian Freer took it two weeks ago after sweeping singles and doubles against George Fix at the Stag-Hen.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it battles Gustavus Adolphus twice, starting at 9 a.m.
