CMS Men's Tennis Controls Singles in 6-1 Win over George Fox
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team dropped the doubles point to George Fox, but won in straight sets on all six courts in singles as it took a 6-1 win over George Fox on Thursday night at the Stag-Hen Invitational.
With the win, CMS improves to 7-2 on the season, and will advance to play Gustavus Adolphus in the semifinals, which defeated Trinity 5-2, if weather permits with rain in the forecast the next two days.
Ian Freer and Matthew Robinson won at No. 2 doubles, and then both picked up singles wins, with Freer getting the clincher at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Robinson was the last to finish, but was able to prevail 6-4, 6-2 to give the Stags the 6-1 win.
Advik Mareedu was the first singles match to finish at No. 1, as he captured a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory to tie the score at 1-1. Daniel Blackman followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6, and Christian Settles earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 to set up the clincher from Freer.
Warren Pham added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5, moments before Robinson closed out his match at No. 2.
Next up for CMS is a home contest on Saturday at 10 AM against No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus as part of the final round of matches in the Stag-Hen Invitational.
