Mareedu Earns No. 1 Singles Ranking from ITA

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Advik Mareedu is ranked No. 1 in singles in the nation in Division III in the first individual rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association today.

Mareedu won the national title in singles at the ITA Cup in October, beginning his collegiate career with a perfect 9-0 record after winning all five matches at the ITA West Regionals in Claremont, and then sweeping his four matches at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. He didn't drop a set until the second set in the finals against Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin, but he bounced back to win the third 6-2 to take first place.

He became the first CMS men's tennis player to win the ITA Cup singles title since Michael Starr did it in 2016, when he was also a first-year at Harvey Mudd.

At the regionals, he won his five matches, sweeping all 10 sets with none closer than 6-4 (when he defeated Caleb Wilkins of Chapman 6-3, 6-4 in the finals). He won two tiebreakers at the ITA Cup in the quarterfinals and semifinals, before finally going to three sets in the championship match.

CMS also placed Michael Hao at No. 29 and Matthew Robinson at No. 38 in the first individual rankings. Robinson and Christian Settles are ranked No. 6 in doubles.
