Daniel Park Captures SCIAC Men's Tennis Character Award for 2019-20 Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps senior Daniel Park earned the 2020 SCIAC Men's Tennis Character Award, voted on by the league's coaches, the conference office announced today.

The announcement marks the third character and leadership award that Park has earned in the last two weeks. Last week, he was announced as the winner of the ITA Ann Lebedeff Award endowed by Billie Jean King, which is chosen from national nominees from all divisions and genders. Earlier this week, he shared the CMS Hank Krieger Award, which is voted on by the department's head coaches and administrative personnel and goes to someone who best displays the qualities of athletic excellence, academic excellence and leadership.

Park served as a team captain for the Stags in each of the last two seasons, and twice helped CMS reach the NCAA Division III national championship match in 2017 and 2019. He finished his career with a combined record of 125-40, which included a 62-13 singles record, ranking third in program history with an .827 singles winning percentage.

This year, Park reached the semifinals of the ITA West Regionals before falling to teammate Nikolai Parodi, and came out of the fall season with career-high rankings of No. 10 in the West and No. 31 in the nation. He helped CMS off to a 14-1 start and a No. 2 national ranking at the time that spring sports were suspended.

Off the court, Park worked with RxAll to help combat the widespread issue of counterfeit drug sales in Nigeria, which results in as many as 12,000 deaths annually, and is building out a business model regarding how to integrate RxAll technology into the pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria to help alleviate this issue. He has also helped teach tennis to local middle school students and helped prepare and serve food at local homeless shelters.

The SCIAC's traditional all-league selections for spring sports were eliminated due to the premature cancelation of the season in March, but the league's coaches went ahead with voting on Character Awards for all 10 sports.
