Nikolai Parodi Earns SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for Second Time

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the second time this season, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis junior Nikolai Parodi earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor, the league office announced today.

It marked the third year in a row that Parodi has won both the singles and doubles championships at the Ojai Tournament. He becomes the first player since the inception of the D3 event at Ojai in 1997 to win three consecutive singles and doubles titles and six titles overall. Parodi is now 15-0 in singles and 12-0 with two different partners at Ojai from 2017-2019. His twenty-seven match winning streak is yet another unmatched feat at the prestigious tournament.

This week's SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor marks the seventh SCIAC award for the Stags, by far the highest total in the league. In addition to Parodi's two, sophomore Jack Katzman has won it three times, while sophomore Robert Liu and junior Daniel Park each won it once. Caltech has won the award two times, while Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands and Chapman have each captured it once.

CMS, which is 27-1 and ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest ITA Division III poll, will open up SCIAC Tournament play on Friday when it hosts Caltech for a 3 p.m. contest at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. If the Stags advance, they will also host the championship match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
