Daniel Park Named SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Daniel Park was named the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, March 24, the league office announced today.

Park earned the honor after going undefeated on the Stags' four-match East Coast trip over Spring Break, tallying a 3-0 record in singles without dropping a set and a 4-0 mark in doubles. He was put into some pressure situations in the No. 5 position in the ladder at venues with only four courts available, having to wait to take the court until one of the matches finished at 1-4. He started his matches three times in singles with the team win hanging in the balance and came through all three times.

He first came through on Tuesday against MIT with the Stags traling 4-3, picking up a win to tie the score 4-4 before CMS came away with a hard-fought 5-4 win. He then took the court on Wednesday at No. 8 Wesleyan with CMS leading 4-3 and picked up the clinching win in a 5-4 Stag victory. On Friday, he once again came up with a big win against No. 7 Amherst to tie the score 4-4, before the Mammoths picked up the clincher to hand CMS its first loss of the season.

After studying abroad in the fall, Park has yet to taste defeat in singles this spring, improving his record to 9-0 with the three wins this week (while also standing at 11-2 in doubles). He becomes the third different Stag to win the SCIAC honor this season, joining sophomore Jack Katzman, who has won in twice, and sophomore Robert Liu

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Williams at 6 p.m. for another big top-10 match-up against the No. 5 Ephs.
