ITA West Region Senior Player of the Year goes to Wood

Skillman, N.J. – One of the most successful players in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis history, senior Warren Wood (CMC), has been selected as the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region Senior Player of the Year, the ITA recently announced.

Now having been selected as the West Region Senior of Year, Wood is in the mix for National Senior Player of the Year which is going to be announced at final rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships a little later this month.

Wood has posted a 103-33 career record in singles (third all-time at CMS) and a 106-36 record in doubles (first all-time at CMS) heading into his final NCAA appearance. With singles and doubles wins combined, he has totaled more wins than any other Stag.

He is a four-time first team All-SCIAC selection (one of five ever), four-year ITA Singles All-American (one of three ever), a three-year ITA Doubles All-American, two-time SCIAC Athlete of the Year (one of three to win multiple – Larry Wang won three-straight), a two-time Ojai singles winner (only Stag to win two) and an NCAA Division III singles finalist in 2014.

Wood added Claremont McKenna College Male Athlete of the Year to his list of accolades recently as well. The last CMC Male Athlete of the Year prior to Wood for men’s tennis was Larry Wang in 2009 and before that John Michael Cham-A-Koon in 2004.

Wood leads the Stags into the NCAA Championships over the weekend, beginning with a second round match against UC Santa Cruz.
