Wood bookends career with some of ITA’s top awards

Skillman, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its final end-of-season Division III awards during the NCAA Tennis Championships week in Mason, Ohio and Warren Wood (CMC) of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team has been chosen as the National Senior Player of the Year.

The ITA Senior Player of the Year Award recognizes a player in his last year of athletic eligibility, who has contributed the most to his team in the area of leadership, sportsmanship, tennis performance and tennis improvement during his collegiate career. This player must also be ranked among the top-50 players in the ITA National Rankings during his final year.

As a freshman in 2012, Wood also earned National Rookie of the Year honors.

Wood is the winningest player in program history, surpassing the 100-win mark in both singles and doubles earlier this season. He has earned ITA All-America honors seven times overall, been named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year twice, won the prestigious Ojai singles championship twice and has now reached the finals of the NCAA Division III Singles Championship for the second year in a row.
