Ellison named ITA West Region and National Assistant Coach of the Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Prior to the NCAA Division III men's tennis championship match on May 21, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its national award winners and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis assistant coach William Ellison has been named the National Assistant Coach of the Year in addition to earning West Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors earlier this month.

In 2014, Ellison helped lead the Stags to a No. 1 ranking for much of the year, a second-straight 30-win season, the best season in school history in win percentage and a second place finish at the team championships.

Ellison, a Claremont McKenna College alumni from the class of 2007, is in the second year of his second stint as a member of the men's tennis coaching staff at CMS. Having helped lead the 2008 CMS team to a 3rd place NCAA team finish, Ellison in 2009 joined the staff at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland - a USTA Regional Training Center. At JTCC, Ellison served as a coach and program manager, with responsibilities in community outreach, public relations, and as a tournament director.

Beginning in 2012, Ellison joined USTA Southern California and the Farmer's Classic ATP World Tour tournament staff, where he was responsible for marketing, communication, and sponsor services. In March of 2013 he took on the role of Event Director for the successful debut of the LA Tennis Challenge, featuring Novak Djokovic, James Blake, Tommy Haas, and the Bryan brothers.

Ellison was CMS team captain for two of his four year playing career with the Stags. During that time, Ellison was an ITA All-American in singles and doubles, 2006 ITA National Doubles Champion, ITA Scholar-Athlete, 2006 SCIAC Player of the Year, and a three time selection for first team All-SCIAC. Ellison is also among the top five in CMS history in doubles matches played and doubles matches won. He and partner Evan Feldhausen stand second all-time in matches played and matches won as a team.
