Men's tennis into SCIAC championship match with wins over Caltech and Whittier

Captains Joe Dorn (Jr. - Washington D.C.) and Zhenya Pereverzin (Sr. - Clackamas, OR) each won three matches, as #1 CMS Stags Tennis advanced to the SCIAC championship match with 5-1 and 8-1 wins over Caltech and #23 Whittier. CMS will face#10 Pomona-Pitzer for the tournament title on Saturday at 10 AM at Cal State Northridge. 

Pereverzin partnered Daniel Morkovine (Fr. - San Carlos, CA) at #2 doubles against Caltech, and then reunited with regular partner Nik Marino (Jr. - San Diego, CA) at #3 against Whittier for two doubles wins. He also earned his twentieth singles win of the year at #6 singles against Whittier. Dorn similarly had two doubles wins and a singles win, partnering Warren Wood (Jr. - San Diego, CA) at #1 doubles for their twentieth as a team. Dorn was also a convincing 6-1, 6-2 winner at #2 singles that put the Stags up 6-0 in the afternoon match against the Poets.

Morkovine was one of three freshmen Stags to get singles wins on Friday. He led 6-1, 4-1 in the morning match before his match was abandoned when the dual was clinched. He provided the clinching victory in the afternoon, a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 for his twentieth of the year. Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) and Rohan Shankar (San Jose, CA) were straight set winners at the #4 and #6 singles positions against the Beavers.

With the two wins, CMS improves to 25-1 overall and 9-0 in SCIAC play.
