Stags and Athenas to host NCAA D-III Tennis Regionals May 9-11 at Biszantz

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Both the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team and the men's tennis team won their respective SCIAC Championships this past weekend. For their efforts, both squads have been awarded the right to host the West Regionals of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships May 9-11 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, the NCAA announced May 5.

Men's Tennis Regional Information
The No. 1 ranked CMS men's tennis team hosts a four team regional beginning on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. CMS (27-1) opens up regional play against No. 22 UC Santa Cruz (5-10) while No. 21 Texas-Tyler (22-4) and No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer (16-7) square off in the other second round matchup on Friday. The two winners then play on Saturday, May 10 for the right to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tennis Championships which are on May 19, hosted by CMS.

Friday, May 9 – 2 p.m. (Second Round)
Match 1: CMS vs. UC Santa Cruz
Match 2: Texas-Tyler vs. Pomona-Pitzer

Saturday, May 10 – 2 p.m. (Third Round)
Match 1 Winner vs. Match 2 Winner

Women's Tennis Regional Information
The No. 5 CMS women's tennis team hosts a six team regional beginning on Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. As the host, CMS gets a bye in the first round and does not play until Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. in the second round against the winner of the Whitman vs. Texas-Tyler match. The six teams in the regional are No. 5 CMS (19-7), No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer (15-7), No. 15 La Verne (16-5), No. 27 Whitman (15-9), Texas-Tyler (19-5) and Santa Cruz (5-16).

Friday, May 9 – 10 a.m. (First Round)
Match 1: Whitman v. Texas-Tyler
Match 2: UC Santa Cruz v. Pomona-Pitzer
*CMS and La Verne both have first round byes

Saturday, May 10 – 10 a.m. (Second Round)
Match 3: CMS v. Whitman/Texas-Tyler winner
Match 4: La Verne v. UC Santa Cruz/Pomona-Pitzer winner

Sunday, May 11 – 12 p.m. (Third Round)
Match 5: Winner of Match 3 vs. Winner of Match 4
