Stags Win Three in Convincing Fashion
Eighteen Stags took the courts on Thursday as part of a rare triple-header, with CMS defeating Skidmore, Goucher, and the University of the South. Senior Myles Crandall (Tucson, AZ [pictured right]) remained perfect in dual match play this spring with victories at #1 doubles and #2 singles in the 9-0 victory over Goucher.
Against Skidmore, CMS earned a 6-3 victory, surrendering one point in the doubles and two singles matches. Sophomore Ethan Bond (Beverly Hills, CA) – a mid-year transfer from Skidmore – won at #3 doubles and #4 singles against his former teammates to lead the Stags. Senior Captain Mikey Lim (Honolulu, HI) was the only other two-match winner for CMS, getting his third straight dual match win at #1 singles, and second straight at #1 doubles.
CMS won the night match against the University of the South by an 8-1 score. Despite having two match points at the #2 doubles position, CMS dropped a tough 9-8(1) decision to keep Sewanee in the match heading into singles. In the singles, the Stags were dominant, blanking Sewanee in six of twelve sets. Victor Chien (So. – Diamond Bar, CA) and Sam Wong (Fr. – Palo Alto, CA) dropped only five games between them, playing at #5 and #6 singles respectively, and together at #3 doubles.
CMS is now 10-2 overall and takes on 12th ranked Amherst at 12 Noon on Saturday. Amherst reached the NCAA team final in 2009. The Stags return Saturday night at 6:00 PM against Linfield College, ranked 9th in the West region.
