#4 Middlebury Too Much For Stags

Sophomore Robbie Erani (New York, NY) provided the Stags’ only win on Friday, as CMS was beaten 7-2 by a very tough 4th ranked Middlebury team. Erani’s win at #1 singles against Middlebury’s Andrew Peters, avenged a loss to Peters at the ITA Small College National Championships last October. Erani is now 17-2 on the season at the #1 position.

CMS played some of their best doubles of the year against Middlebury, nearly coming away with a 2-1 advantage. Erani and Ronald Wu (Jr. – Los Altos, CA) moved to the #1 doubles position where they lost a tough 8-5 decision to ITA D3 National Champions Andrew Lee and Andrew Thomson. Captain Mikey Lim (Honolulu, HI) and partner Thomas Keiffer (Sr. – La Jolla, CA), now at #2, earned an exciting 8-6 win. At #3, Eric MacColl (Sr. – Greenbrae, CA) and Brandon Wei (So. – Lake Oswego, OR) played their typical aggressive, high-energy style of doubles, and yet lost a tough 9-7 match to put the Stags down a point.

In the singles, CMS lacked the sharpness that they had the previous night against #1 Santa Cruz. The Stags won only two first sets: Erani at #1, and Wu at #5. Wu would eventually drop a three-setter after injuring and abdominal muscle midway through the second set.

CMS is now 13-4 on the season and takes on 25th ranked Gustavus Adolphus College next Tuesday night at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at 6:00 PM.
